Xavier University, a Jesuit Catholic institution, invites applications for the position of Athletic Trainer Intern. The Department of Athletics sponsors 19 sports programs with more than 330 student-athletes, and is a member of the Big East Conference. This position is a fixed-term, ten-month position annual position, renewable for a second ten-month term, and will begin August 1, 2026.
The Athletic Trainer Intern is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of all injuries to Xavier University Student Athletes and Cheerleader, specifically responsible for organizing all sports medicine coverage for the teams/groups assigned. The athletic trainer will follow all divisional protocols and procedures as written following Xavier, NCAA, NATA and State of Ohio Board (OTPTAT).
Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Deliver comprehensive care to student-athletes and cheerleaders, including injury prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and appropriate referral Provide coverage for practices and competitions (including potential team travel), as well as pre- and post-activity treatments Coordinate referrals to appropriate healthcare providers, both within and external to the University Assist with pre-participation and exit physical examinations and screenings Maintain regular communication with coaches, including weekly injury reports, and serve as a liaison between student-athletes and team physicians Coordinate and/or provide transportation for student-athletes to medical and health-related appointments Assisting with sports medicine coverage during weight room hours Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records Monitoring and tracking inventory of sports medicine supplies Assisting with maintenance, upkeep, and calibration of athletic training equipment Assisting with oversite and mentorship of MSAT students Supporting the coordination of annual educational programming for coaching staff related to NCAA compliance (e.g., concussion protocols, sickle cell awareness, emergency action plans, CPR/AED training) Assisting with oversite and mentorship of MSAT students c. Maintaining accurate and timely daily treatment documentation Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Athletic Training required NATABOC Certification Ohio OTPTAT License CPR/AED Certification Possess a philosophy of athletic training and wellbeing that supports the mission of Xavier University and its Athletic Department Knowledge and a history of compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations Possess a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements for insurability under Xavier’s University’s policy To ensure consideration, interested applicants must submit a cover letter and resume on Xavier University's website.
