About the Position Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach for Women’s Basketball is responsible for the oversight and operation of the College’s competitive Division III Women’s Basketball program, including all aspects of coaching, recruiting qualified student-athletes, scheduling, budget management, fundraising activities, and managing the intercollegiate program within the policies and principles of Haverford College, the Centennial Conference, and the NCAA.
Primary Responsibilities
Coordinate practice planning, skill development, and design coaching strategies Conduct practices and games throughout the season Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches Maintain liaison with College and athletic administrators, athletic trainers, athletics strength and conditioning staff, athletics communication director, and faculty liaison, as appropriate for a head coach Attend monthly College Administrative Professional Staff meetings, athletic staff meetings as scheduled, weekly athletic logistics meetings, other special College meetings as announced, and Centennial Conference meetings Ensure compliance with College policies and state laws, including those pertaining to required clearance, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations Enforce departmental policies and team rules regarding travel and conduct both on and off the court Demonstrate success in identifying, evaluating, recruiting, and retaining student athletes who meet both the academic and athletic standards of Haverford College and its Women’s Basketball program Operate within a budget that covers all operational costs of the program. Additional team fundraising activities, as approved by the Director of Athletics, may be overseen to supplement special team gear and/or trips Always represent Haverford in a professional manner including dealings with officials and opposing coaches Maintain continued and consistent communication with women’s basketball alumnae Schedule non-conference opponents in a manner that meets both budgetary and competitive goals Support community service programs for student athletes Adhere to general and program-specific safety policies, including the communication and enforcement of safety practices; maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification Other duties as assigned: Such assignments will be made by and discussed with the Director of Athletics
Line of Report: The Head Coach – Women’s Basketball reports to the Director of Athletics and supervises the assistant coaches.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree 5 years of basketball coaching experience
Professional Competencies
Effective oral and written communication skills Excellent people skills Strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Prior coaching and recruiting experience in basketball at the college level
Master’s degree
