The Landmark Conference, a 10-member NCAA Division III athletic conference, is accepting applications for a Director for Championships and Special Events.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and remain open until the position is filled. The position is a full-time administrative position with benefits. The anticipated start date for the position is August 1.
The Director for Championships and Special Events will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of conference operations, with a focus on championship administration, sports governance, and special event planning. This role offers an opportunity for leadership and professional growth, with direct oversight of an intern and close collaboration with member institutions and conference committees. This position reports directly to the Commissioner.
The Director will play an integral role in managing the governance and operations of the conference’s 23 sports, ensuring the success of championship events, and serving as a primary liaison to various committees, including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the ability to be managed remotely. Candidates are expected to reside in the geographic footprint of the conference (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Washington, D.C.).
Key Responsibilities
Championship Administration (35%) •Oversee the planning and execution of championship events for the Landmark’s 23 sports, including scheduling and running preseason, postseason, and pre-championship meetings. •Serve as the primary contact for Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) and vendors to ensure successful event operations. •Communicate with Coordinators of Officials in 20 sports to align championship planning and officiating needs.
Special Events and Operations (20%) •Serve as the primary liaison with predetermined championship hosts and venues, ensuring compliance with Landmark standards and expectations. •Manage all aspects of championship administration, including bracket seeding, game schedules, policy enforcement, officials coordination, and ticketing. •Oversee vendor relationships for championship merchandise, signage, awards, and ticketing.
Finance and Logistics (20%) •Work with RefQuest to ensure timely payments to officials for the 11 applicable sports and monitor incoming payments from member institutions. •Reconcile championship expenses and prepare detailed reports for the Commissioner. •Organize conference meetings and events, including space reservations and food and beverage planning.
Governance and Committee Oversight (20%) •Provide direct oversight of the 15 sport-specific committees, SAAC, and other governance committees as assigned by the Commissioner. •Organize and facilitate two SAAC meetings annually, including one in-person event. •Collaborate with Coaches’ Chairs to develop reports and manage the flow of actions through the conference governance structure.
Professional Development and Miscellaneous (5%) •Collaborate with the Commissioner to identify professional development opportunities for conference constituents. •Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the Landmark Conference.
Qualifications and Key Attributes
Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of three years working in college athletics
Ability to be managed remotely
Exceptional verbal, written, and online communication skills are essential
Knowledge of NCAA Division III athletics and a commitment to supporting student-athletes
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
Certain times of the year will require travel, night, and weekend work
