The Head Men’s Basketball Coach is responsible for all aspects of the Southeastern Community College NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball program, including recruiting and supervision of student-athletes, coordinating and supervising practices, coordinating and facilitating fundraising activities, overseeing travel, budget and the overall daily operations of the Men’s Basketball program. Responsible for developing, coordinating and facilitating retention and improvement programming for the basketball program.
This position is a full-time professional services position. Salary will be commensurate with level of experience, with a minimum starting salary of $60,000 per year.
The position also includes the full SCC benefits package- medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, sick leave, vacation, discretionary leave, paid spring and holiday breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.
Terms of employment are per the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.
The position will uphold college policies and procedures and supports and participates in college-wide initiatives. The incumbent is expected to actively promote a positive image for the college district and support SCC’s mission, vision, values and goals.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.
Supervise all aspects of the men’s basketball program and ensure compliance within the NJCAA & ICCAC regulations, Board Polices and Institutional Guidelines.
Perform the duties of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach including: recruiting and supervision of student athletes; coordination of practices, travel and fundraising activities; care of equipment and facilities, inventory, budget management and the overall daily operations of the basketball program.
Serve as an ex-officio member of the BlackHawk Booster Club and work collaboratively with the organization to ensure the success, image and integrity of the men’s basketball program within SCC and the community.
Maintain a day-to-day knowledge of operations in areas of responsibility.
Assist in development and implementation of operational procedures including short and long term planning for areas of supervision.
Support institutional strategic endeavors by participating fully in enrollment and student success efforts within the student services division and college-wide.
Establish and maintain high behavioral standards for student athletes.
Serve as an advocate for all student athletes and assist individual students with challenges, concerns and conflicts related to the athletic program at SCC.
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to facilitate a successful academic experience at SCC for all student athletes.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of the staff within the division and provide for their continued professional growth and development.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics to develop and facilitate SCC’s Title IX Compliance program and division fundraising projects, activities, and events.
Participate in local, state and national meetings as directed.
Represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, faculty & staff, regulating bodies, other educational institutions and the community we serve.

Bachelor’s Degree required.
A minimum of three years successful head coaching experience in recruiting, coaching, and managing a basketball program in a higher educational setting is preferred.
Athletic administration, sports management or other related athletic experience preferred.
Valid driver’s license.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, colleagues and community.
Self-motivated, energetic and creative individual with proven leadership, planning, fund-raising, and public relations skills.
Demonstrated success and integrity in managing student-athlete academic endeavors.
Strong human relations and interpersonal oral & written communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations.
Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.
Supervision and assessment/evaluation of staff.
Working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
