The Head Men’s Cross Country/Indoor & Outdoor Track Coach is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, and strategic planning in directing and supervising all activities related to the recruitment, teaching, training, and skill development of scholar-athletes in preparation for intercollegiate competitions.
This role demonstrates establishing positive, mutually respectful, and effective working relationships with scholar-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, alums, and the public in support of the University’s mission to educate global thinkers, resilient problem solvers, and future leaders, ready to help industry and societal needs by responsibly integrating science, technology, and other key disciplines to advance knowledge across the universe and Florida Tech athletics mission of developing diverse athletes into scholars, champions, and leaders prepared to become global influencers in their relentless pursuit of greatness. Florida Institute of Technology is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). In meeting the University’s tradition of ethical conduct at all levels of university life, this role is responsible for demonstrating a commitment to represent the University in an honorable and ethical manner and complying with all athletic, NCAA, Sunshine State Conference (SSC), Florida Institute of Technology, and established Federal Government policies and protocols, including the use of all athletic and university software and technology systems, documentation, travel arrangements, equipment/supplies maintenance, orders, and community service.
This role is a Campus Security Authority (“CSA”) as defined by the Clery Act and will comply with university policies on the reporting of crime statistics and related information to the official designated by the University for Clery Act reporting, and in compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, is defined as Responsible Employee and will report incidents of sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) and other inappropriate sexual conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or other appropriate designee as required by University policy.
Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for providing a positive scholar-athlete experience centered on their physical and mental health in the organization, implementing, oversight, and present at all regular practice sessions and competitions in developing, instructing, and motivating scholar-athletes in fundamentals, techniques, and strategies to achieve a high-level performance individually and as a team.
Lead the evaluation and recruitment of athletically talented and academically qualified scholar-athletes, supporting the University’s mission and philosophy in monitoring, overseeing, and supporting academic success. Comply with the academic policies established by the University and the NCAA and maintain an environment where higher education is prioritized, as reflected by class attendance, grade point averages, the NCAA Academic Success Rate (ASR), and federal graduation rates.
Develop, implement, and oversee the sports operating budget provided by the university. Develop fundraising activities and events to supplement the budget needs of the program, including cooperating fully with the University in promoting the Program, the University’s Athletics Advancement fundraising, the University, the University’s Alumni Association, and other University-affiliated organizations. Such cooperation includes, but is not limited to, (a) attendance and participation at meetings, events, and media outlets of the University and University-affiliated organizations; (b) endorsement of products and performance of promotional services; and (c) personal appearances, in each case as directed by the Director of Athletics.
Performs additional duties and special projects as directed by the Senior Associate Athletic Director and/or the Director of Athletics in support of the department's mission and strategic priorities.
Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Sports Facilities, Coaching, or other athletic-related discipline. Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum 5-8 years of experience required in area of expertise.
First Aid/CPR.
Previous collegiate, club, or high school head or assistant coaching experience.
