Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
In coordination with the Athletics Director, the Esports Game Coach is responsible for managing daily operations of the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) program for assigned game titles. Responsibilities include strategy development, recruiting support, tryouts, technical support, team leadership, and communication. Games may include League of Legends, Rocket League, and Counter Strike 2, with additional titles added based on student interest.
This position is paid a stipend per coach. The Esports program features a dedicated Esports studio, gaming equipment, and team jerseys.
Functional Responsibilities:
Dedicate a minimum of five (5) hours per week for practices, competitions, team leadership activities, and meetings during the competitive season
Support the Athletics Director with recruiting, tryouts, roster selection, and appointment of team captains
Field and coach up to two teams in assigned game titles
Attend all in-person practices and competitions hosted on campus; some practices and matches may occur remotely as scheduled
Develop and implement recruiting initiatives consistent with institutional, regional, conference, and NJCAAE regulations
Set up and manage Twitch streams prior to each competition
Support other Esports game coaches as needed
Assist with social media content creation related to Esports activities
Maintain team communications and updates through Discord
Enforce TCC Esports standards, NJCAAE rules, and other applicable conference policies
Perform other job-related duties as assigned in support of college goals and core values
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Prior coaching experience or competitive Esports team experience
Familiarity with Discord
Knowledge of recruiting processes and experience recruiting talent for intercollegiate or competitive teams
Familiarity with conference and NJCAAE rules, policies, and regulations
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Proven experience coaching Esports teams or managing Esports organizations at a high school or college level
