The Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the SCC Head Coach in all aspects of running a competitive NJCAA Division II Volleyball program. This includes planning and conducting practices, assisting with game strategies, mentoring student-athletes, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, a solid understanding of volleyball fundamentals, and a commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
This position will also be responsible for supervising student athletes in the residence halls.
This position is a .8 FTE professional services position (208 work days per year) with a starting salary of $18,000 per year plus fully-paid room and board.
The position also includes pro-rated SCC benefits – including medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, sick leave, vacation, discretionary leave, paid spring and holiday breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.
Terms of employment are per the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.
The position will uphold college policies and procedures and supports and participates in college-wide initiatives. The incumbent is expected to actively promote a positive image for the college district and support SCC’s mission, vision, values and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practices and training sessions.
Support the Head Coach in developing game strategies and analyzing performance.
Provide individual and group instruction to improve players’ skills and techniques.
Promote and ensure compliance with all school, league, and NJCAA rules and regulations.
Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, study hall, and team travel.
Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes respect, accountability, and academic success.
Help manage equipment, uniforms, and team logistics.
Assist with recruitment and retention of student-athletes as needed.
Attend all games, practices, fundraising events, and team meetings unless otherwise excused.

Driving Responsibilities:
Safely transport student-athletes to and from practices, games, and tournaments as required.
Maintain a clean driving record and comply with all school or organizational vehicle policies.
Ensure the safety of all passengers during travel, including proper use of seat belts and adherence to travel itineraries.
Complete all required driver training and certification programs before transporting students.
Coordinate with athletic department to schedule transportation needs and vehicle usage.
