Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach will lead the men’s and women’s cross-country programs. The coach will be responsible for all aspects of the program including athlete recruitment, training, academic support, and competition preparation, while promoting sportsmanship, academic achievement, and personal development. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment in alignment with the college’s mission and NJCAA regulations.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Run all aspects of the program including but not limited to recruiting, scouting, scheduling, running practices, coaching, and teaching methodology
Comply with all NJCAA rules and regulations
Provide academic, personal, and professional mentoring to student-athletes.
Monitor student academic progress
Ability to recruit and graduate quality athletes
Assist in the preparation of team budget
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience as a head coach or assistant coach at the high school or collegiate level (Volunteer coaching experience may be considered), which must include the following:
Facilitating coaching strategies and techniques.
Certification in Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods of time. Lifting (more than 50 lbs.), walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis.
Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequent travel, including overnight and weekend travel, is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
Preference will be given to candidates familiar with NJCAA and Maryland Junior College (JUCO) guidelines and policies.
Six (6) years of collegiate experience as a player or coach preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of cross country, a sophisticated understanding of coaching and training strategies, and a demonstrated ability to enhance student athlete development.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently with student athletes from all backgrounds, while fostering teamwork, and ensuring a positive experience for all athletes.
