Purpose: To provide athletic training services to University of Maine student-athletes and assist in the operation of the sports medicine center.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Interacting in a positive manner with other members of the athletic training staff (professional and student), the team physician, consulting physicians and members of the University of Maine Sports Medicine Team.
Providing coverage for scheduled practices and games involving University of Maine athletic teams as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Traveling with University of Maine intercollegiate athletic teams as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.
Providing prevention, care and rehabilitation to all injured intercollegiate student-athletes in coordination with the Team Physician’s.
Determining the activity status of injured student-athletes for practice and competition in coordination with the Team Physician’s.
Referring appropriately to team physician’s, consulting physician’s and other members of the Sports Medicine Team.
Cooperating with Team Physician’s, coaches and Compliance Office regarding the establishment of medical eligibility of student-athletes.
Providing coaches with information regarding the medical status of injured student-athletes and other health and safety issues as deemed necessary in conjunction with the Team Physician.
Keeping individual medical files on all student-athletes. Maintaining confidentiality of all medical records as outlined in state law and University of Maine policies.
Maintaining compliance with all NCAA and University of Maine policies regarding medical issues for student-athletes.
Maintaining compliance in all University facilities regarding OSHA standards including but not limited to blood-borne pathogens.
Assisting with student-athletic trainer education, supervision and recruitment under the direction of the athletic training education curriculum director.
Documenting all injuries and treatments on computer software. Create season end injury summaries to evaluate injury trends and provide insight to coaching and strength training staffs.
Providing assistance in supply inventory and ordering.
Providing general supervision of the Athletic Training Room.
Providing health care information, advise and counsel athletes, coaches, and physicians on matters pertaining to the physical, psychological and emotional health and well-being of the competitive student-athlete.
Serving as co-coordinator of the sports medicine clinic for summer sports camps. Specific duties include hiring and supervising staff and ordering and inventory of supplies.
Working effectively and cooperatively with other members of the Athletics team, UMaine administration, the campus community, and other external clients and customers. Develop and maintain professional relationships that reflect courtesy, civility, and mutual respect.
Performing other reasonably-related duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Performing physical duties of an athletic trainer, to include, but not limited to performing rehabilitation and lifting heavy loads up to 30 pounds.
Commits to organizational improvement by identifying opportunities to improve and recommending possible alternatives for a situation.
Community/public appearances to promote UMaine athletic training.
