The independent contractor position of National Coordinator of Men’s Ice Hockey Officials is the national representative for ice hockey officials, working with the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Rules Committee and the various championship committees to ensure accurate enforcement of NCAA playing rules and officiating mechanics. The national coordinator administers the men’s program. The national coordinator is expected to develop and expand the pool of qualified officials at the collegiate level.
Reports to: NCAA national office staff with responsibility to the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Oversight Committee.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
The duties of the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey National Coordinator shall include, but not be limited by, the following as determined by the NCAA staff and/or the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Oversight Committee:
1. To support, encourage and improve the quality of officiating at the collegiate level.
2. To select officials for the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship and Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship.
3. To promote positive communication between officials, coaches and NCAA.
4. To provide consistency in the interpretation of the NCAA ice hockey rules and officiating mechanics.
5. To identify, evaluate and develop potential NCAA ice hockey officials.
6. Coordinate all areas of ice hockey officiating in conjunction with the secretary-editor of the rules committee.
7. Serve as a liaison in the arena of ice hockey officiating to the various NCAA ice hockey committees.
8. Conduct an annual meeting with conference supervisors of officials and regional clinics (as needed) to review interpretations, mechanics and the philosophy of officiating. Hold conference calls periodically throughout the season to ensure proper communication.
9. Provide officiating staff support to the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey and Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Committees as follows:
a. Coordinate the official’s evaluation and advancement procedures for all men’s championships, subject to the approval of the committees.
b. Attend the Men’s Frozen Four and Division III championships as permitted to supervise the officials and assist in the game assignments, subject to the approval of the committees.
c. Represent ice hockey officiating issues at the annual meetings of the championships committees and at the annual coaches’ convention.
10. Develop and implement a plan to recruit new officials to collegiate ice hockey.
11. Assist in the production and coordination of the Ice Hockey Rules Committee’s annual national clinic as needed, including securing and selecting video clips for interpretation.
12. Work closely with the conference supervisors of officials to ensure that NCAA playing rules are being applied and interpreted correctly and consistently.
13. Manage and maintain budget with fiscal responsibility.
14. Travel and observe conference officials, subject to approval of the NCAA administrator.
15. Work toward the elimination of any practice that permits coaches to “blackball” or “scratch” game officials in relationship to their individual game assignments and retention as a working official in the conference.
16. Develop and implement an officials’ enhancement program that would include public relations, educating the public, etc.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the championship committees and the rules committee.
Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
Extensive knowledge of NCAA Ice Hockey Rules and current officiating mechanics and techniques.
Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and Word.
Strong administrative and organizational skills.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Familiarity with and ability to relate to NCAA hockey coaches and officials.
Experience as a college or professional official, and/or extensive knowledge of college hockey.
