Job Summary: The graduate assistant plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the learning experience of students. This position involves providing academic support, guidance, and resources to students to promote their overall academic success. The graduate assistant collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to develop and implement strategies that address individual learning needs and optimize student learning outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Student Support:
Provide individualized academic support to students, including those with diverse learning styles, disabilities, or specific learning challenges.
Conduct assessments to identify students' learning strengths and areas requiring improvement. Develop personalized learning plans and strategies to address students' specific needs and promote academic growth.
Assist students in setting academic goals and monitor their progress towards achieving those goals.
Provide guidance on study skills, time management, organization, and effective learning strategies.
Learning Resources:
Develop and curate learning resources, including study guides, online tutorials, and workshops, to support students' academic development.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to create and implement inclusive learning materials and accessible instructional strategies.
Stay updated with current research and best practices in the field of learning support to ensure the provision of evidence-based resources and services.
Collaboration and Consultation:
Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to enhance curriculum design and instructional practices that support student learning.
Consult with faculty on incorporating appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with learning differences or disabilities.
Participate in interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic support to students, such as collaborating with counselors, disability services, or other student support services.
Program Development:
Contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive learning support programs that align with the institution's mission and goals.
Design and deliver workshops or training sessions for students, faculty, and staff on topics related to effective learning strategies, study skills, and academic success.
Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of learning support programs and initiatives, making recommendations for improvement.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes.
Prepare reports and statistical data related to student engagement, program effectiveness, and learning outcomes.
Use data analysis to identify trends and areas for improvement in the provision of learning support services.
Qualifications:
Seeking a master's degree in sport and athletic administration, education, counseling, learning support, or a related field is preferred.
Must be a current student in good academic standing at the institution.
Strong academic record and familiarity with the institution's academic policies and procedures.
Experience working with students in an educational or academic support setting.
Knowledge of learning theories, student development, and best practices in academic support.
Familiarity with different learning styles, accommodations, and strategies to support diverse learners.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, faculty, and staff.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Proficiency in using technology and educational software for instructional purposes.
