POSITION SUMMARY: Assists with the coaching and administrative duties of the NCAA Division I men’s tennis program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. COACHING - The Graduate Assistant is responsible for assisting the head coach with the teaching of sport specific fundamentals and skills associated with their assigned sport which includes but is not limited to; observing and evaluating performance and demonstrating proper techniques, executing practice plans to improve student-athletes skill level. In addition, the Graduate Assistant is responsible for providing instruction to their student-athletes during practice and competition on certain game day situations. Assists the head coach with the management of all aspects of the sports program. Serves as an on-court coach during practices and games, provides advice on strategy while evaluating player performance and demonstrating proper skills or techniques needed to perform at a high level. Serves as a hitting partner during individual and team practices. (30%)
2. RECRUITING - Evaluates and recruits high school players, entertains prospective recruits and their accompanied family on campus. Introduces them to the on campus amenities and samples campus life during their tours. Make phone calls, emails or social media contact within the NCAA guidelines for their respective sport. Maintain contact with recruit per Head Coach’s directive and assigned area of responsibility whether that be a region or geographical area or positional responsibility. (30%)
3. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach. (25%)
4.NCAA Related - Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations. (15%)
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:
Bachelor's Degree
Expertise in the technical aspects of tennis
NCAA tennis playing experience
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and vendors
Strong organizational, management and leadership skills
Proven ability to multi-task effectively
Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
Proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets
Proficient in social media content creation and platform-specific posting strategies
Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
Travel with sport teams for away contests
Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations
Must have a valid driver's license.
