Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach will serve as a member of the Department and be responsible for administering all aspects relating to a positive and beneficial intercollegiate athletics experience for student-athletes within the program. The Head Volleyball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics, while the coaches within the volleyball program will report to the Head Coach. This position is full time and an exempt position.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Fort Lewis College, an NCAA Division II institution in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, is responsible for leading all aspects of a competitive volleyball program, including, but not limited to:
Recruit, develop, retain and graduate student-athletes
Oversight and roster management, scholarship allocation, and budgeting for the program
Organizing and conducting skill instruction, practice, scheduling of competition and training schedules
Effectively manage relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and the broader campus community
Strategize and supervise all aspects of recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes
Provide appropriate leadership in practice and competitive environments
Participate in fundraising activities supporting the program
Ensure a quality student-athlete experience through community engagement, campus involvement, and competitive achievement
Monitor academic and disciplinary standing of student-athletes
Establish positive relationships with support staff and other key program partners
Schedule and organize volleyball camps and clinics
Participate in designated conference and NCAA meetings and represent the volleyball program at specific college, department, alumni, media, and community events
Hire, train, and evaluate coaching staff within the program Performs Other Duties as Assigned
Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Successful experience in coaching volleyball at the collegiate level
Experience recruiting and working with a dynamic team
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend hours
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills
A thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance with the rules, regulations, and policies of the NCAA and the Rocky Mountain Conference
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience
Master’s degree
Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in NCAA DII
Experience in fundraising
Experience building a successful program
Head coaching experience at the collegiate level
