SUMMARY Responsible to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for the direction, coaching functions, and oversight of the university’s NCAA Division II volleyball program. Functions include coaching, recruiting, practice, game day preparation, forming game strategies, alumni communication, fundraising, assuring student-athlete well-being and academic success, and management and supervision of staff. It is critical that the Head Coach establish a strong working relationship between the University and the community; ensure compliance with NCAA, RMAC, and university rules or regulations; develop student-athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally for Division II competition; organize and manage camps and clinics, oversee department budget, and perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Teaching responsibilities may be included.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Adhere to CMU Athletics Policies and Procedures and perform all duties required of a head coach.
Oversee women’s volleyball program. This includes supervision of assistant coaches, scouting, recruitment of student athletes, monitoring academic progress of athletes, scheduling games, ensuring compliance with NCAA and RMAC conference rules or regulations and eligibility of players.
Supervise and participate in the recruitment of student athletes. This includes interviewing, screening, assessment/evaluation, and meeting with coaches, counselors, principals, teachers and parents to facilitate the process.
Plan and manage team travel such as time schedules, transportation by bus/vans, lodging accommodations, meal and accommodations, insurance coverage and schedules for meets and practice. Ensure travel arrangements are within budget constraints and are safe for the players’ and coaches’ welfare.
Supervise and manage the inventory of sports equipment. This involves the selection and purchase, reconditioning, checking standards and ensuring safety and accountability of physical assets.
Oversee the budget for the program. Monitor and approve expenditures for areas of responsibility.
Supervise and manage the facility to facilitate practice. Coordinate the facility arrangements, ensure safety of equipment and practice facilities, and secure facilities at end of practices.
Plan, organize and participate in practice and games. This involves athlete conditioning, planning sets, oversight of practices, review current rules and regulations, and participate in media coverage of events.
Conduct coach clinics/seminars for assistant coaches. Supervise and manage summer programs for youth.
Assist the Athletic Director and/or the Alumni Director in fundraising activities at their request.
Work in liaison with community groups to encourage and foster their participation in the athletic activities or events. Speak at promotional events such as sports banquets and community events.
Serve on committees as deemed appropriate for district, conference or national level.
Work in liaison with faculty, administrators, and staff to coordinate academic and athletic efforts and to share resources and ideas.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position reports to the Director of Athletics and must subscribe to the Colorado Mesa University Principles Governing Athletics. This position supervises Assistant Coaches.
Required
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
At least 5 years of experience coaching Volleyball at the collegiate level.
Experience with budget management.
Knowledge of NCAA Recruitment rules.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
