Position Summary
Job Summary
Excellent opportunity to join a committed team of coaches, staff and administrators and foster an environment of integrity and excellence as the Head Volleyball Coach. The primary responsibility of this position is to instruct student-athletes in their respective sport while aligning with the university's academic mission. Additionally, the role includes a secondary administrative duty, which will be reassessed annually. This position is classified as exempt under FLSA regulations and reports to the Director of Athletics.
Specific Responsibilities
Serves as the Head Coach of the Volleyball program.
Demonstrates emotional intelligence and adaptability to adverse situations; a strong commitment and the ability to enhance student-athlete experiences through positive motivation and applicable counseling support.
Provides oversight of all operations and programming including coaching, training and skill development of all student-athletes during practice and matches.
Evaluates, recruits and retains quality student-athletes for the volleyball program.
Facilitates the operating budget and coordinates fundraising opportunities for the volleyball program, including One SU and Orange and Maroon giving days.
Develops a schedule that includes competitive regional contests and oversees team travel, equipment and supplies.
Partners with athletics administrators and campus facilities to ensure any facility needs for the volleyball programs.
Adhere to all NCAA Division III and Landmark Conference rules and bylaws.
Partners with campus stakeholders including the offices of student life, counseling, facilities and admissions to ensure support of the volleyball program and student-athlete experiences.
Hires, supervises and trains assistant coaches, as needed.
Fulfills a secondary administrative duty or other duties as assigned.
Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as SU community
Represent the university to various constituents in a professional manner
Two – three years of previous coaching and recruiting experience. NCAA DIII Head Coaching experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
The person in this position must have excellent knowledge of coaching volleyball; understanding and knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations; patience and good people-skills; flexibility to meet changing demands, and good organizational skills. They must be able to self-motivate, and be a confident, energetic, and enthusiastic individual. They must be an energetic and detail-oriented self – starter; social media savvy and strong interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated integrity, leadership, and excellent knowledge of the sport. Demonstrates a strong track record of high ethical standards, along with proven expertise in inspiring and guiding student-athletes to achieve academic and athletic success.
Additional Requirements
This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements.
Physical Demand
Must have the energy and enthusiasm and mobility to actively coach the sport. Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires frequent lifting, stooping, crouching, and bending.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
Master's degree preferred.
Experience
NCAA DIII Head Coaching experience preferred.
