Under the direction of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Facilities, Events, & Capital Projects will support and enhance the mission of the San Diego State University Athletic Department.
The incumbent serves as the supervisor of the following areas: facilities, event management, championships, camps, capital projects, and venue management.
For each area listed above, the incumbent will establish, develop, and implement goals and objectives. The incumbent is responsible for supervising the overall planning, implementation, and day to day operations of each area. This position oversees all staffing, as well as development of and adherence to policies and procedures in each area. This person shall act as primary liaison and caretaker of the areas outlined above; as such, incumbent will supervise the management and evaluation of staff members assigned to each area and overall performance of each area. The incumbent will conduct all business in accordance with department, University, conference, and NCAA regulations.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
A minimum of ten years of professional management experience
At least five years management experience in NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics
Extensive supervisory experience
At least five years collegiate athletic Development experience
Key Qualifications
Proven ability to lead and manage people.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to plan and execute plans.
Master’s degree is preferred.
University employees that have direct job responsibilities involving intercollegiate athletics are expected to have knowledge and understanding of NCAA, conference and University rules, policies and procedures governing intercollegiate athletics. Additionally, he or she is required to notify the appropriate personnel of any knowledge of, or should have known of any violation or suspected violation of NCAA, conference, or University regulations.
Licenses and Certifications Required
Valid California driver’s license within 10 days of hire.
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.
