The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach / Head Cross Country Coach at Keuka College is responsible for the comprehensive management of the men’s and women's cross-country teams and the design, implementation, and supervision of strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs for all varsity athletic teams within the Department of Athletics & Recreation. This dual role involves critical aspects of team management, including recruitment, eligibility, event and training planning and execution, budget preparation and monitoring, scheduling and travel arrangements, public relations, alumni engagement, fundraising, and the supervision of student-athletes and staff. The position requires strict adherence to Keuka College, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Essential Responsibilities:
Design, organize, implement, and supervise strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs for student-athletes.
Teach proper techniques and safety for all lifts and movement drills, ensuring compliance with facility rules and procedures.
Regularly communicate with administrators, athletic training staff, and head coaches.
Assist student-athletes with injury prevention training in consultation with athletic training staff.
Offer fitness and recreational programs to the general student body in coordination with the Director of Athletics.
Support weight room and cardio room operations, overseeing equipment maintenance, cleaning, and purchases.
Analyze and evaluate new equipment, provide advice on purchases, and schedule repairs for facility and equipment safety.
Develop a competitive program aligned with the athletic department's vision.
Formulate and execute a comprehensive recruitment strategy, meeting or exceeding annual goals.
Maintain or exceed optimal roster size annually.
Support compliance, monitor academic success, and track personal growth of student-athletes.
Operate a fiscally sound program with an annual balanced budget.
Train and prepare student-athletes for intercollegiate competition through practices, conditioning, and film review.
Attend all contests, accompany the team on trips, and manage team conduct on and off the field.
Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and mature conduct as the head coach.
Support annual fundraising and alumni outreach in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Office of Development.
Adhere to all NCAA, conference, and college processes and rules.
Coordinate the hiring, training, and mentoring of assistant coaches and/or graduate assistants.
Attend provided/necessary training and meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values and adhering to institutional policies.
Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
Perform other functions as assigned by management.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors required, Masters preferred.
At least two years of strength and conditioning experience in an intercollegiate setting.
At least two years of coaching or playing experience.
Current membership in and certification by an accredited professional organization (National Strength & Conditioning Association, Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, etc.).
Must have time management flexibility and be able to sustain long work hours, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs and concerns of all constituents of the College including but not limited to students, faculty, college staff, and the public.
Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
Physical Requirements:
Evening and weekend hours required.
Must be able to work on your feet for an extended period.
Ability to exert up to 50-100 pounds of force and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
