Responsibilities in the Athletics Department: - 60% direct service Caseload with an emphasis on consultation fully dedicated to athletes and athletics needs (therapy, consultation, care coordination) (24) - Regularly scheduled observation and enhanced availability for impromptu consultation, rapid assessment, and brief interventions at team practices, team talks, via presence at the training room, weight room, and competitions (3-4) - Scheduled Mental Performance workshops/team talks, meeting visiting recruits, executive coaching, injury clinic, psychoeducation, and staff in-service trainings as it pertains to athletics & mental health. (3) - Maintained working relationships with designated teams. Travel when appropriate and requested. - Bi-weekly consultation with the Assistant Athletics Director for Sport Psychology and Mental Wellness 1 on 1 until licensed and institutional knowledge is deemed proficient - Administrative work, meetings, & problem-solving responsibilities such as policy development for athletes with eating disorders or serious mental illnesses, vetting external providers for referral, serving on coach hiring committees, acting as a liaison/consultant with faculty/staff partners (i.e., athletic training, registrar office, student well-being committee, academic advisors, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) compliance office), regarding the unique and difficult athlete specific issues and duties of athletes/coaches. (4) - Estimated Total hours per week 35 in athletic spaces 4.5 days a week with flexibility to document and shift time as needed for frequent evening/weekend obligations /occasional team travel obligations
Responsibilities in the Counseling Center: - Weekly Staff Admin and clinical meeting (2) - Bi-weekly consultation with the Director of Counseling & Psychological Services 1 on 1 - Potential for peer supervision group every other week when not scheduled to meet with the Director of Counseling & Psychological Services if pursuing licensure. (1) - Work as a supervisor and consultant for matched doctoral interns. Leads the sport psychology training specialization track out of the university’s Counseling Center. - Attend monthly Eating Concerns Treatment Team as athletics representative - Gain and maintain foundational training for App State’s Counseling Center-based mental health systems, Electronic Medical Records campus partners, & emergency protocols (2) - Provide didactics 1-2x per semester for matched interns pertaining to topics related to their sub-specialization and student-athlete mental health. - Participate in bi-weekly sport psychology team which is available to all staff for consultation or education pertaining to working with high performers. Takes part in emergency phone coverage rotation each semester - Estimated Total Hours per week 4- 5, in the counseling center for half a day a week max and would not require a permanent office space)
Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, or related field, or master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, or related field and eligibility for appropriate licensure in North Carolina.
Experience providing clinical services and outreach programming to student-athletes.
