The University of Colorado Athletics Department encourages applications for an Assistant Director for Mental Performance Coordination within the Office of Psychological Health and Performance. This position will assist in the delivery of general psychological services (evaluation, treatment and education) to student-athletes competing within a highly competitive, Division I athletics program. Additionally, this position will provide consultation and relevant training to coaches, athletic trainers, academic staff, and other athletic department staff within the realm of psychological services and mental performance. The Assistant Director for Mental Performance Coordination will determine components of the mental performance sessions offered to teams and student-athletes, manage the assignment of teams to staff, and coordinate and oversee mental performance programming.
The Assistant Director, Mental Performance Coordinator may also provide individual and group supervision of mental performance trainees and staff, and work closely with Psychological Health and Performance's Director and staff in coordinating the mental performance programming with direct service and outreach needs to the department, to ensure high quality, inclusion and responsive services to athletes and the department as a whole.
The Assistant Director, Mental Performance Coordinator will evaluate the effectiveness of the mental performance program in achieving improved mental health and performance and will have a programming and clinical expertise in working with traditionally underserved or marginalized populations.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:
Clinical & Mental Performance:
Responsible for assessing and treating common psychological issues such as anxiety/depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, grief, sexual trauma, and personality disorders.
Provide consulting and outreach services to coaches, athletic trainers, academic staff, and other administrative personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individual student athletes and team members.
Serve as a resource for diversity and inclusion work within the department, including participation in ongoing cultural outreach efforts.
Work closely in collaboration with team physicians regarding appropriate NCAA documentation as well as making medication recommendations for disorders/disabilities.
Participate in student-athlete pre-performance physical examinations by introducing behavioral health and mental performance and how to access services.
Identify psychological and performance education outreach needs and offer relevant programming, including the facilitation of team workshops and mental performance work with teams.
Coordinate and develop mental performance programming and organize the delivery of the programming.
Provide daytime crisis intervention and emergency services in situations involving individual student-athletes or teams.
Participate in relevant special projects and meetings.
Administration:
Medical documentation and record keeping.
Oversee, manage, and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the mental performance program.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the mental performance program, make necessary adjustments and improvements.
Participate in and facilitate Peer Supervision meetings with other supervisors within PHP.
Develop and maintain relationships with organizational units that can assist and/or enhance the mental health & performance services provided to student-athletes.
Participate in continuing education and professional association activities related to performance of job functions and the maintenance of skills.
Participate in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, and develop programs related to expertise.
Department Responsibilities:
Understand and align with state statutes governing the ethical provision of psychological care, as well as those rules governing the Athletic Department, University, conference, and the NCAA.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of and remain current on rules and regulations of the NCAA and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) regarding banned drugs and restricted substances, particularly NCAA by-law 16.5.2. (g) & (h).
Adhere to principles stated in the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement and promote loyalty to the mission by all staff and student-athletes under their supervision.
What You Should Know:
There may be some travel associated with this position.
This is a full-time, in-person position within the Department of Athletics, reporting to the Associate AD, Psychological Health and Mental Performance.
What We Require:
Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Sport and Performance Psychology, or Social Work.
Licensed as a counselor or social worker or license-eligible and ability to obtain license in the State of Colorado within six months of employment.
Three+ years of clinical experience post licensure treating clients across various spectrums, including: race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, and economic status through a social justice lens.
Experience in mental performance or leading mental performance programming.
Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) Certification through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, or ability to become certified within 6 months of employment.

Knowledge of psychotherapy and clinical/counseling psychology.
Knowledge of psychological testing standards and principles.
Personal qualities and skills that enable effective interaction with the sport medicine staff, athletic department, colleagues, administrators, faculty, and student-athletes.
Commitment to diversity and demonstrated competency in multicultural counseling skills.
Knowledge of and adherence to professional, legal, ethical, and professional standards endorsed by licensing professional organization.
Ability to work autonomously to conceptualize, diagnose problems, and implement appropriate treatment solutions.
Ability to make accurate judgments concerning the physical, emotional, and educational welfare of student-athletes.
Ability to educate and present to a wide variety of psychological topics.
Ability to present and represent the university at local, national, and international conferences.
Knowledge of community-based mental health resources.
Strong work ethic.
Administrative experience managing a practice to include documentation of treatment and coordinating the treatment schedules of clients.
Ensure all assigned tasks are in compliance with departmental, university, PAC-12, and NCAA rules.
What We Would Like You to Have:
Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology. Licensed as a psychologist or license-eligible and ability to obtain a license in the State of Colorado within six (6) months of employment.
Experience in Division I intercollegiate athletics or with professional athletes related to mental performance.
Experience in trauma-informed care and/or working with high-risk populations.
