SUMMARY OF POSITION: Yhe National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) has an potential opening for a full-time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with experience in collegiate strength and conditioning.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Exercise Science or a related field is preferred.
Experience with development and management of strength training programs at the college level
Must be certified by a nationally accredited certification: National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC)
Demonstrated knowledge of Strength and Conditioning best practices.
Knowledge of physical conditioning, weight-training, and weight/ dietary programs of student-athletes.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic administration.
Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse student population.
Candidates must have a strong work ethic, evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public, the ability to motivate and deliver results, the ability to collaborate and compromise, and must be passionate about continually progressing as a strength and conditioning professional.
Must have the ability to work effectively in a collaborative effort to maintain the mission, vision and objectives of the strength and conditioning department.
Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
Must be willing to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends; travel with teams if time allows.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for developing and administering strength and conditioning programs for men’s and women’s athletic teams assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs year-round using research-based practices that enables athletes to perform to their physical potential.
Promptly report concern of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines, or policies to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Work with head sport coaches to plan and facilitate strength and conditioning needs.
Assist the Athletic Training Staff in rehabilitation and injury prevention.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with NIFS Athletic Performance Staff and IUPUI Athletic Department personnel.
Abide by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and IUPUI Athletics Department’s academic standards, requirements, and policies and assure adherence to regulations, policies, and procedures.
Lead by example and promote a positive image by participating in community and professional organizations, representing the department at professional meetings and on committees, establishing and maintaining credible relations with campus and community constituents.
Reinforce expectations for athlete conduct.
Other duties as assigned by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Other opportunities for responsibilities and compensation depend on experience and qualifications and may include conducting group training classes and/or personal training.
