The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Athletics Department is seeking a qualified Academic Counselor. This position will report directly to the Senior Associate AD for Student Athlete Academic Services.
Specific job duties include: -Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes for assigned sports (Football) -Assist with the academic, social, and career development of student-athletes in cooperation with other University support services -Coordinate the tutor program which includes recruiting, interviewing, initial and ongoing training, and managing a staff of student tutors; utilizing GradesFirst to set-up and schedule tutoring appointments; regularly tracking, evaluating, and reporting on the program to all constituents as needed; and using data to incorporate innovative measures to increase effectiveness and efficiency -Counsel student-athletes regarding academic performance, course/major selection, graduation plans, NCAA academic eligibility requirements, etc. -Communicate student-athletes’ academic progress to coaches and athletics administration through reports and regular meetings -Oversee departmental social media presence -Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. - 1-2 years of experience advising and counseling student-athletes in a Division I athletic academic support program
Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. -Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, public relations, interpersonal, customer service, and supervisory skills when working with student-athletes, faculty, staff, coaches, and administration. - Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others; commitment to working with multi-cultural populations. - Have strong work ethic and be a person of high integrity and character who shares a commitment for knowing and complying with NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules as they apply to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Athletics program. - Ability to work extended daily hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
