Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,459 per month.

This position within Athletic Medicine, and with a dotted line to the Student Health Services Nursing Manager, under the general direction of a nurse, nurse practitioner or physician, performs a variety of skilled nursing duties, and a wide range of technical, skilled and paraprofessional nursing duties and care to students within the scope of practice for an LVN. Other duties may include participation in other campus programs pursuant to the mission of San Diego State University, i.e., health education outreach programs, immunization campaigns, etc. The LVN II may be required to work at different sites both within and outside of SDSU Athletic Medicine, depending upon current staffing needs. The Licensed Vocational Nurse II may oversee clinic operations and coordinate specialty clinics and/or provide case management related to a specialty area, especially if they possess additional training or certification in a specialty area. This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience A high school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a state approved vocational nursing program in an accredited school of vocational nursing or equivalent training and experience as defined by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). Equivalent to three to four years of progressive responsibility as a LVN, including some experience in the specialty area to successfully perform work in the specialty; possess and maintain specialized training and/or related certifications.

Licenses/Certifications Required - Must possess and maintain a valid Vocational Nurse license issued by the State of California; possess and maintain certification for intravenous therapy as defined by the BVNPT. - Must possess and maintain a valid CPR/AED certification and/or IV certification as appropriate to the assigned duties.
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University.
