Marquette University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Sports Performance Coach. This position works with women’s basketball and track & field student-athletes daily to enhance her personal ability through the development of strength, movement and speed. This position works directly with the women’s basketball and track & field coaching staff and sports medicine staff to ensure that the training techniques are effective and beneficial to the individual’s development as well as prevention of injuries and effective and efficient return to play following injury. Position also assists with student and graduate student oversight. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1. Develop and organize sports performance programs according to the individual/women’s basketball and track & field team needs. 2. Development of effective sports performance programs that promote individual improvement and injury risk reduction/prevention/return to play. 3. Provide mental discipline and motivation for women’s basketball and track & field student-athletes. 4. Oversight of student and graduate internship assistants. 5. Continue to monitor industry trends to provide student-athletes the best opportunity to succeed. 6. Assist with student-athlete nutrition program. 7. Work closely with women’s basketball and track & field head coaches to develop and organize sports performance programs that are beneficial for student-athletes according to the individual/team needs. 8. Work closely with athletics training staff to develop sports performance programs to minimize injuries to student-athletes and follow/supervise a prescribed rehabilitation program to return student-athletes to participation in an effective and efficient manner. 9. Instruct and supervise individual student-athletes prescribed rehabilitation and conditioning. 10. Implement and monitor athlete tracking systems (Catapult, Whoop, Eliteform, Forcedecks). 11. Develop individual and team statistics. 12. Monitor individual and team progress. 13. Involvement in team practices and travel as requested. 14. Meet with prospective student-athletes during recruiting visits to provide insight into university, team and Sports Performance Program. 15. Work with women’s basketball and track & field coaches, Director of Sports Performance, and Nutritionist to develop and maintain proper nutrition program and opportunities for student-athletes. 16. Assist with sports camps and clinics as needed. 17. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Previous experience in collegiate strength & conditioning facility required.
Certification and prior experience in strength & conditioning environment, preferably at the collegiate level. Ability to interact with student-athletes in a multi-cultural environment required. Ability and flexibility to work directly with coaches to develop programs suitable to student-athletes and team needs. Energetic, motivated and focused on team goals essential.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work in a team-based environment.
Background in biomechanics preferred.
Knowledge of NCAA academic and eligibility rules preferred.
Nutrition certification/background preferred.
Degree in related field (exercise science) preferred.
Biomechanics background preferred.
Nutrition background/education preferred Previous experience working with women’s basketball preferred.
Previous experience working at Division 1 level preferred.
