The Associate Commissioner will report to the Commissioner and will have responsibilities in the areas of messaging, branding, competition and strategic initiatives. Areas of responsibilities include the following:
Messaging and Branding
Oversee all aspects of Horizon League messaging strategy, including branding, communications, marketing and public relations.
Oversee all aspects of communications for all league sports including, but not limited to: weekly announcements, weekly awards, statistics and postseason coverage.
Serve as primary communications contact for assigned League sports.
Lead the strategy for the creation, development, production and deployment of Horizon League content on all mediums (e.g., website, social media, storylines, podcast).
Lead the public relations strategy for the League focused on local, regional and national media relationships and coverage.
Lead the brand strategy ensuring League’s brand recharge is being used and pulled through across all mediums and storylines.
Manage League brand with licensing partner.
Lead and create League yearly marketing strategy and plan (i.e. McLendon Day Celebration, Beyond the Horizon.)
Oversee administration of athletic and academic award programs.
Attend championship events and provide lead communications coverage.
Travel to select regular-season and postseason events.
Lead strategic initiatives focused on innovation and new revenue opportunities for League and members.
Serve as staff liaison to Messaging Cabinet and other League governance groups
Competition
Lead championship operations for assigned sports, including head coach peer group oversight.

Provide direct supervision for Director of Communications and Broadcasting.
Provide direct supervision for the Director of Creative Content.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 1. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills 2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 3.Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively multitask in a fluid work environment 4. Strong leadership and people development skills focused on individual and team growth. 5. Knowledge and experience in maintaining a SIDEARM Sports-operated website, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and NCAA statistical programs is preferred.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and minimum (7) years of experience in intercollegiate athletics communications and/or related communications and marketing field.
