The Opportunity
The Department of Journalism at the College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) at the University of Florida seeks to hire an Associate or Assistant Professor (tenure-track/tenured position) to begin in the Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 term. We are particularly interested in candidates whose broad program of work examines the dynamics of contemporary media environments. We invite applicants with interests in journalism studies, science communication, political communication, visual communication, digital media and communication technologies, media effects, international communication, or information credibility, among others, from any methodological perspective and with any substantive interest. Candidates should hold a doctorate in journalism/media/communication (or related field) and are expected to show evidence of top-tier publications, with potential for external funding if applicable. Candidates have the opportunity to teach both undergraduate and graduate classes, and we would especially welcome applicants with the ability to teach multiple courses in the program, including the ability to develop new courses. The selected candidate will conduct original scholarship, teach 2 courses per semester, mentor students (undergraduate, MA and PhD), and participate in service to the department, college, university, and discipline.

Minimum Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Journalism, Media, Communication(s), or related fields.
Evidence or promise (for fresh PhD graduates) of high-level research activity such as top-tier publications, external grants.
Experience teaching in higher education.
Ability to teach journalism skills and/or survey courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability or desire to work in diverse and multi-cultural environments.
Ability to engage and mentor students in research projects.
Capacity to teach courses in broadcast journalism, visual/multimedia journalism, or narrative nonfiction.
Commitment to institution-building and collaborative initiatives at the college and university level.
