About the Position:
This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
The Assistant Director of Graphic Design will play a crucial role in executing the SMU Athletic Department's digital, marketing, and social media strategy, helping to establish the university as a leader in college athletics.
Working under the direction of the Assistant AD for Creative Services, the Assistant Director will be responsible for creating visually appealing designs that accurately reflect the SMU Athletics brand.
Essential Functions:
Design visually appealing and engaging graphics for official SMU Athletics social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) that align with the department's social media strategy
This position will also manage the social media presence for an assigned varsity program, assisting in the execution of the department’s overall social media strategy
Conceptualize, design, and produce materials for marketing campaigns such as sport posters, email newsletters, and print and digital advertisements
Create rough drafts and incorporate feedback to refine and enhance designs
Manage the day-to-day social media content and monitoring of an assigned varsity sport, including posting to official team accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other emerging platforms
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
A minimum of two years of related work experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills A strong customer service orientation is essential.
Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills with ability to work in a fast paced environment and fulfill content needs quickly.
Candidate must have a understanding of the needs of a Division 1 football program and the ability to supervise & direct others.
Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud design applications.
An understanding of and compliance with NCAA, AAC, and SMU rules and regulations is strongly preferred.
