Oglethorpe University, Atlanta’s leading private, Liberal Arts University is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic professional to serve as an Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach. The Assistant Coach is accountable for assisting the Head Coach in all phases of growing competitive cross country and track & field programs which compete in the Southern Athletic Association. Primary duties include sport specific training, managing game day operations including travel arrangements, effectively recruiting student athletes, and maintaining positive public relations for the athletic department. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefit package, including employer paid health insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, tuition waivers and much more. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Coaches’ responsibilities include but are not limited to knowing and abiding by all University, NCAA and Southern Athletic Association rules and regulations; coaching; assist with practice and meet plans; recruiting; monitoring scholar-athlete academic progress; assist in fundraising; and scheduling. The successful candidate must be highly motivated and have a successful coaching record in a competitive cross country and/or track & field program. The successful candidate must also provide positive leadership in all aspects of the running program and must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with all internal and external patrons. Other job duties and responsibilities are to be determined by the Head Coach and/or the Director of Athletics.
A Bachelor’s degree is required and previous coaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred. A valid driver's license is also required.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Successful candidate should also be knowledgeable of and committed to the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Title IX, and SAA. Position may require ability (and safe driving record) to drive a 15-passenger van; ability to demonstrate appropriate technical skills during practice; ability to plan, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks; ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Some travel required.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This position requires work in a normal office environment as well as on outdoor venues; typically running, bending, crouching and stooping.; use of tools requiring high dexterity is required as well as occasional lifting of up to 35lbs; use of office equipment, track equipment and alternative work schedule is also required.
