The Assistant Director of Event Management will serve as event manager at all athletic events for assigned athletics teams. In this role, you will act as a liaison and first point of contact for officials and visiting teams, interpret, instruct, and effectively communicate complex event rules, regulations and guidelines to ensure events are played in a fair and interrupted manner as well as resolve game day complaints and problems. In addition, you will assist with the preparation of bidding materials for NCAA, Big Ten, and other conference tournaments and events.
This posting represents 2 openings. Employee will be responsible for management of (a) Guest Services and (b) Game Operations Students or (c) Parking Operations as described below.
(a):Management of Guest Services Students Oversee recruitment, hiring, and training of guest service students 30 - 35 Oversee scheduling of students for daily shifts, game days and rentals Provide performance management and supervision Oversee payroll management
(b):Guest Service Program Develop and deliver game day briefings Develop and deliver preseason training programs Assist with guest recovery efforts Oversee game day reward and recognition program
(c): Parking Operations Assist in overseeing and execute annual game day parking plan for athletic events Communicate and liaison with Purdue Parking, Purdue Police and local Police Agencies (WLPD, LPD, Tip County, State Police), Other University units for special events (i.e. RecWell, Purdue Grounds, Purdue Turf Farms, TEMA, etc.) regarding parking operations and traffic patterns Assist in game day/special events towing logistics and enforcement of parking rules Assist game day/special events bus and golf cart shuttles and contracts Maintain positive relationship with parking software vendor Assist in hiring, supervising, evaluate and terminate temporary non-student and student staff, as necessary, to provide professional game day services
Special Projects and Rentals: Work on other special projects and assignments
Manage external requests and events for facility usage
Assist with post season and championship events
Required:
Bachelor’s degree
2 years’ experience of sport event planning, sports administration, scheduling Athletic events or related experience
Ability to effectively communicate with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, staff, and parents
Ability to plan and organize work to meet established deadlines
Ability to read, interpret, instruct, and effectively communicate complex rules, regulations, and guidelines (NCAA, Big Ten and Purdue University)
Must be able to demonstrate planning, problem-solving, project management, quality control, data collection, public relations, and excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
Must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes teamwork principles to successfully guide the work of others
Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting business/sport processes
Personal computer and related software skills, e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, etc.
Valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license
Preferred:
Degree in Sports Administration, Sports Management, Management or related field
Prior high school or college coaching, officiating, playing, or student manager experience
