The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Director, Academic Excellence. This is a career, full-time position with a targeted annual salary of $90,000.00, with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. The Director of Academic Excellence will serve as a senior leader within the Office of Academic Excellence, assisting with the daily operations, and execution of the strategic objectives and vision of the program. The incumbent will also have oversight of the NCAA academic eligibility certification program for all 25 varsity teams (approximately 650 student-athletes), working closely with the Associate Athletic Director of Academic Excellence and Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance & Student-Athlete Services. This includes implementing and developing policies and procedures for the certification program, facilitating trainings and educational sessions as needed, and implementing a reporting system that provides timely communication to student-athletes, coaches and staff. The Director of Academic Excellence will manage the NCAA Academic Performance Program (APP), which includes both the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) to evaluate the retention, eligibility status and graduation rates of all current scholarship student-athletes. Additionally, the Director of Academic Excellence will supervise one (1) full-time staff member: Assistant Director of Eligibility Services, who supports the eligibility certification program.

All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities and requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred; A minimum of three (3) or more years leading eligibility certification at a Division I program; A minimum of three (3) or more years supervising and managing staff; Working knowledge of UCLA’s university, general education and major curriculum; Ability to analyze a student’s degree program using the UCLA Degree Progress Report (DPR)/Degree Audit Report (DAR) is strongly preferred; Working knowledge of NCAA policies, rules and regulations, specifically NCAA academic eligibility requirements, NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is strongly preferred; Working knowledge of UCLA’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, UCLA College of Letters & Science, and Pac-12 Conference and MPSF policies, rules and regulations; Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and student-athlete demands; Demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment and handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and according to FERPA guidelines; Skill in working independently and following through on duties with minimal direction; Ability to effectively counsel and advise student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff with questions and concerns related to academic eligibility questions and concerns; Ability to interact diplomatically with individuals of various social, cultural, economic and educational background; Outstanding communication skills both oral and written, including skill in writing memos/reports and using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; Ability to establish and interact collaboratively and effectively with other staff, student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and the UCLA community in a highly pressured environment; Outstanding listening, analytical, and problem-solving skills in work with academic staff and student-athletes; Ability to operate Windows-based PC using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), LSDBi, Jump Forward and CAi.
