Position Summary
Under the direction of the Head Football Coach, the Football Operations Coordinator will serve as administrative support to the Head Football Coach and football office. The Football Operations Coordinator will also act as the liaison with communications to various internal and external contacts and serve as the first point of contact for the football office. Internal Liaison duties include coordination of the day-to-day operations of the football office and serving as the lead for football office interns and volunteers. This position will interact with all levels of the campus, other university football offices throughout the country, and with staff, student-athletes, parents, alumni, boosters, and various constituencies on campus.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club/Development, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, External Corporate Sales, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.
Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Five or more years of administrative support experience is preferred.
Previous work experience with a football team.
Ability to work some weekends and evenings, especially at-home football games.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple work projects accordingly.
Ability to accomplish tasks independently.
Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.
Experience in preparing and maintaining budgets, including examining and analyzing expenditures and other accounting and financial records.
Experience in office management, especially leading/supervising others.
Experience with Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office Suite.
