South Dakota State University is accepting applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer. This position will assist the sports medicine staff with administering athletic training services for 19 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports teams. Duties include, but are not limited to: work with and under the supervision of the Medical Director and Team Physicians; instruct in CAATE entry level athletic training programs as a preceptor; supervise undergraduate and graduate athletic training students; assist with providing primary sport coverage for assigned sport(s); evaluate and administer first aid to the injured student-athletes; coordinate referrals and maintain communication with athletic health care teams and coaches; administer therapeutic exercise and modalities under supervision of a physician; and administrative duties. This position will provide coverage for track and field/cross country.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Athletic Administration or Sports Science by application date;
Minimum of one year of experience in athletic training;
BOC certification for athletic training;
CPR and First Aid certified;
Effective communication (oral, written and interpersonal) skills;
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
Demonstrated computer application skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science or Administration;
At least one year of experience supervising athletic training students;
Division I intercollegiate experience;
Experience working with track and field/cross country;
Eligible for state license in South Dakota;
Experience with team travel responsibilities;
Experience with supply ordering/monitoring;
Knowledge and/or understanding of medical records following HIPAA and FERPA and Sportsware;
Knowledge and/or understanding of medical insurance.
