The Head Coach and Aquatics Director is the person responsible for all aspects of leading a NCAA program in the sport of Swimming and Diving along with the Aquatic Center program management. This includes, but is not limited to, recruitment of prospective student-athletes, student-athlete development, competition preparation and strategy, supervision of assistant coaches, lifeguards, Aquatics programming, pool maintenance as needed, scheduling, alumni and public relations, fundraising, adherence to NCAA and AMCC rules and regulations, and general administrative duties. The Head Coach and his/her program will be evaluated for competitive success, the extent to which coaches are providing a positive meaningful educational experience for student-athletes leading to their graduation and the extent to which the Head Coach has established a sport culture in which he/she is viewed by the student-athlete(s) as a mentor, educator and role model. The Head Coach will also be responsible for supporting the philosophy, goals and mission of both the college and its Athletic program as well as adherence to departmental, university, and NCAA policies and procedures. Other duties as qualified and assigned by the Director of Athletics could include, but are not limited to Strength & Conditioning Coach, PE Instructor, Facility/Events Mgt, Summer Camp Mgt, etc.
Recruiting: The Head Coach is responsible for the development of a comprehensive plan to identify, evaluate, recruit high quality student-athletes to Alfred State.
Team Preparation: The Head Coach is responsible for training, teaching, and conditioning student- athletes in preparation for all intercollegiate contests.
Student-Athlete Development & Retention: The Head Coach is responsible for creating an atmosphere and culture that is a reflection of the missions of both the Athletic Department and the College; striving to graduate all team members.
Administrative Responsibilities: The Head Coach & Aquatics Director will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative tasks to operate the program or other duties as assigned.
NCAA Rules Compliance: The Head Coach will be responsible for knowledge of, and adherence to, NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the Swimming and Diving program.
Budget: The Head Coach will be responsible for administering a budget developed in collaboration with his/her sport supervisor, with final approval granted by the Director of Athletics.
Supervise Staff: The Head Coach is responsible for the hiring, evaluation, and supervision of assistant coach(es) or any other staff.
Generation of Revenue: The Head Coach & Aquatics Director will be expected to participate in fundraising activities for both the general athletic program and the Swimming & Aquatics program. The Head Coach will strive to meet a mutually agreed upon fundraising goals for the Swimming & Diving program utilized for training trip travel.
Community Services: The Head Coach & Aquatics Director will be expected to participate in community relation activities both as an individual and with student-athletes.
Alumni Relations: The Head Coach & Aquatics Director will be expected to establish and maintain a good relationship with the Swimming & Aquatics alumni.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor Degree. Collegiate coaching experience either as a head coach or assistant coach. Significant experience and understanding of a comprehensive Aquatics program and pool operation. An understanding of NCAA Rules Compliance is required. Prior experience with recruiting, skill instruction, practice/game plan development, staff supervision, and administrative responsibilities required.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include a Master's Degree in a relevant field; experience coaching within a NCAA intercollegiate program; prior management of a comprehensive Aquatics program; excellent organization and communication skills, and fiscal management experience.
