James Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is accepting applications for an Athletics Facilities Coordinator/Aquatics Manager to serve as building coordinator and provide general supervision for Godwin Hall. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to opening/closing facility; maintaining the appearance and functionality of the facility; providing varsity sporting and special event support; receiving, taking inventory of equipment; and ensuring safe condition of the buildings. This position is full-time and includes benefits.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Act as building coordinator and provide general supervision for Godwin Hall and Hillside Tennis Courts. • Serve as the Athletics Aquatics Manager with direct oversight of a 287,000 gallon pool. In charge of day to day upkeep, routine maintenance, and help to provide long-term planning of maintenance and improvements. • Provide oversight, assistance, and guidance of hydrotherapy pools and help Athletics staff with day to day upkeep and maintenance in all Athletic hydrotherapy spaces. • Serve as the primary point of contact for programs and support staff for all facility needs or concerns within Godwin Hall. • Distributing information to all staff within assigned facilities informing them of possible impacts, timelines, solutions, etc., of maintenance related concerns, improvement projects, and events that could impact staff members. • Ensuring assigned athletic facilities are properly prepared for daily use, performing tasks such as setting up, testing and troubleshooting game equipment, audio/visual systems, scoreboards, shot clocks, message boards, etc. • Making repairs and/or reporting all routine and non-routine maintenance and repairs via work orders for facilities and facilities-related equipment. Acting as liaison with Facilities Management or appropriate vendor to ensure all repairs are completed to the standards of the department. • Making critical decisions that could affect the safety of student athletes, coaches, and patrons. • Serve as backup to Bridgeforth Stadium, Veteran's Memorial Park, and East Campus Tennis Courts to help provide high-level coverage when primary coordinator is absent. • Overseeing improvement projects within assigned facilities. • Working in support of assigned varsity game day operations and special events including pre-event set-up, in-event operation and post-event take down. • Assist at other athletic facilities as needed, to include providing support and game-day coverage for athletic/special events as assigned. • Being responsible for the hiring and supervision of student facilities staff. • Understanding and practice all university safety procedures. • Ensuring compliance with all relevant institutional, SBC, and NCAA rules. • Working evenings, weekends and holidays when needed.
Required Qualifications:
• Must possess working knowledge of facility maintenance methods and techniques, and a general working knowledge of mechanical and building systems. • Must possess knowledge of risk management. • Must possess critical thinking and resource management skills. • Must possess excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills. • Must have ability to obtain (training will be provided): forklift certification, hydraulic lift operation certification and OSHA certification. • Basic computer skills. • A valid driver's license. • Ability to move relatively heavy objects and moderate lifting of 20-50 lbs. is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience managing aquatic or hydrotherapy facilities. • Bachelor's degree in a related field. • Prior experience working within athletics or recreational facilities. • Prior experience in painting/lining fields.
