Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Executive Associate Athletic Director of Business Administration, the incumbent serves as a liaison between Athletics and the Center for Human Resources. Incumbent is responsible for assisting department staff on Human Resources policies and procedures, recruitment, compensation, performance management and employee relations. Work often involves confidential information or sensitive situations that require discretion and the exercise of sound judgement. Interacts with internal and external constituents and all levels of the organization.
The incumbent often makes independent decisions in evaluating and establishing work priorities under pressure and demands of constant deadlines. Duties may be reassigned intermittently depending on Athletic Department needs and workload.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2024 with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club/Development, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, External Corporate Sales, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.
Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Extensive experience with Microsoft Office
Skills to interpret policies and procedures as they relate to university’s Human Resources office and communicate to fellow staff members
Ability to accomplish tasks and daily projects without supervision/direction
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize complex projects effectively
Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply NCAA rules and regulations
Two or more years of human resources experience, preferably in an intercollegiate athletics or professional sports team environment is preferred
Experience supporting diverse employee groups in institutions of 75 employees or more
