Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine - Athletic Training
The Assistant Athletic Trainer, which is a full-time 10-month position, reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and will assist in the organization of the Athletic Training Rooms and manage the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries for student-athletes. This position will work cooperatively with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff.
Essential Functions • To work in cooperation with the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in all aspects of the health care of student-athletes at Davis & Elkins College. • Provide athletic training services and coordinate all medical care for at least one travel team. •To assist in the supervision of sport assignments in the evaluation, treatment, care and rehabilitation of injuries when they do occur so that student-athlete can return to competition as soon as possible. •To evaluate and direct the emergency medical attention given when a student-athlete is injured in practice or competition. Implement the treatment, care and rehabilitation of injuries according to the protocols developed by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and the team physicians. •Direct in-house rehabilitation programs for all injuries so that the student-athlete can return to competition and re-injury does not occur. •To attend at home athletic events as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. •To act as a liaison between student-athletes, coaches, parents, team physicians, strength and conditioning staff, and other sports medicine professionals on medical consultation matters, including College concussion policy. •Maintain compliance with NATABOC continuing education requirements by gaining knowledge of up-to¬ date techniques in the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by attending conferences, clinics and seminars and/or home study courses. •Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field; Master’s preferred • (2) years athletic training or sports medicine experience preferred • National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) membership preferred • Current certification in CPR and AED • Must have excellent computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Vivature Athletic Training Software • Demonstrated effectiveness in verbal and written communication • Management and organizational skills are required • Ability to obtain a valid Class D WV license with passenger endorsement
