Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine - Athletic Training
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Deputy Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine is responsible for the development, organization, and administration of the University of South Dakota’s NCAA DI sports medicine program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities;
- Provide oversight of athletic training services for 18 sports including prevention, care and rehabilitation during practice and contests.
-Prevents, recognizes, and assesses athletic injuries. Implements preventative and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments.
-Consults with physicians, physical therapists, and outside medical providers on injuries and treatment plans while communicating action plans with student-athletes, coaches and Strength & Conditioning staff as appropriate.
-Develop and foster an on-going communication plan with coaches to ensure all aspects of the student’s health is communicated for the best interest of the student and their continued success.
-Monitors, reviews and verifies injury reports. Ensures proper maintenance and confidentiality of all medical records and patient information, adhering to HIPAA, NCAA, and NATA guidelines.
-Provides supervision and mentoring to the Athletic Training staff. This includes scheduling and assigning work, conducting annual performance reviews, and providing expertise on hiring committees.
-Develop and manage an infrastructure to ensure ongoing professional development of the Athletic Training staff that promotes continued individual growth and advance of the Sports Medicine department.
-Provides oversight and monitoring of all Athletic Training program policies and procedures, including ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
-Serves as the NCAA Healthcare Administrator.
-Develops and monitors athletic training budget including ordering and monitoring inventory of medical supplies and maintenance of equipment.
-Diligently works in collaboration with the primary and secondary insurance provider on student-athletes medical bills to minimize medical expenses for the department.
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field with experience in a similar position require. BOC certification required and South Dakota Athletic Trainers licensure eligible required.
Additional Salary Information: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
