Assistant Athletic Director will support the Athletic Director in managing all of DSAL’s recreational programs and staff. The Assistant Athletic Director will report primarily to the Athletic Director and also interact directly with the Executive Director & Operations Manager. The position will have a full-time direct report (Administrative Assistant) and a shared direct report (Soccer General Manager), and will co-manage (with the Athletic Director) the various recreational program leads and coaches.

Primary Responsibility Areas (lead on these items w/ supports where needed)

  • General staff & programs management (together w/ Athletic Director) and a variety of administrative tasks
  • Strategic planning development & implementation
  • Events organization for various DSAL community & sport-specific events & tournaments (FamFest, Golden Gloves, Futsal Tournament, Police vs Fire Tournament, and more to be developed)
  • Participant life skills & academic enrichment initiatives
  • Participant cross-pollination initiatives
  • Camps programs
  • Communications
  • Database maintenance & management
Secondary Areas (assisting others on these items)
  • Physical office space management
  • Fundraising & development tracking & organizing
  • Social media support
  • Website content updates
  • Attendance at DSAL & other community related meetings
Delegated Responsibilities (responsible for overseeing these items done by direct reports)
  • Master calendar of all programming
  • Data & registration management
  • Facilities applications
  • Rentals of DSAL-managed facilities
  • Workforce development program
  • School & community event tabling
  • Support on other DSAL-related/partner events
  • Equipment & apparel ordering & inventory management

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in related work
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, Masters degree preferred
  • A knowledge of sports and affinity for sports for social good programming
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with new technologies
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate clearly and respectfully with coaches, families, referees and children
  • Ability to lift, carry and move up to 75lbs

The Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs' Activities League (DSAL) is a national leader in revolutionizing the role of law enforcement in communities. Our programs include a robust Recreation Department, Urban Farming (Dig Deep Farm), the Food Hub (professional kitchen space for food entrepreneurs), and a variety of other community building initiatives. Our Recreation Department features fully-funded cost-free youth and adult programs, serving approximately 2,000 people a year. It includes the Sheriffs Fútbol Club (a year-round soccer & futsal club competing in MLS Next and NorCal Premier as well as recreational & school-based programs), the DSAL Boxing Academy & Fitness Arena, Muevete (dance / fitness), DSAL Martial Arts, After School Fitness, and the Rhythm Cadets Drumline.
