The Assistant Director, Athletic Communications/Graphic Designer OR Photographer will be the primary contact for select Army West Point sports programs, in addition to running the website, social media and digital assets for the Army-Navy Series to include the Army-Navy Football Game.
Duties include, but are not limited to: writing press releases, game notes, running social media accounts, acting as the liaison between the public and media and the athletics programs. This position will also be required to be experienced with photography, strong with graphic design and stellar at social media engagement strategies. This position will also assist in running the website and social media for the Army-Navy Football Game and the year-round promotion of the Army-Navy Star Series.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Position:
-Sports: Serve as the primary communications contact for designated sports including in-game responsibilities. Write pregame, game notes, postgame, recruiting, and feature stories for assigned sports and general department releases (on items such as academic success, personnel changes and community service). Travel to select away events. Update statistical program/scorebook as needed. Provide the NCAA, Patriot League, or affiliated conference with information as requested and support post-season tournaments and other events. Track annual achievements and highlights.
-Photography/Graphic Design: Skilled photographer to shoot events as assigned (practices and competitions) AND/OR strong experience in graphic design.
-Army-Navy Series Social Media: Work closely with members of the Naval Academy Athletics Department to execute social media coverage, the website, and sponsorship support of the annual Army-Navy Football game. Coverage of annual Star Series and other needs to promote the game year-round.
-Website: Assist in the management the athletics website and establish an approach to maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and timely content and news dissemination (including all aspects of the website such as rosters, schedules, biographies, results, etc.).
-Media & Interviews: Pitch and solicit stories, respond to requests from, and maintain a positive relationship with local, regional, and national print, radio, TV, and internet media representatives. Conduct interviews as needed, including the creation of videos for distribution on social media. Provide media training for Coaches and Cadet-Athletes. Manage post-game interviews and press conferences.
-Social Media: Oversee the coordination and implementation of the department’s social media outreach plan. Manage and post the athletic event components such as pregame, in-game, and post-game. Coordinate and collaborate with Marketing staff.
-Public Relations: Provide oversight and direction to Coaches, Staff, and Cadet-Athletes on United States Military Academy Public Affairs Office policies, public relations, written materials, and assist them in disseminating appropriate information when dealing with the media.
-Game Programs: Coordinate the design and development of home event game programs, flip cards, etc.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience required. Master's Degree preferred
Two-three years of experience at a university or professional sports media related program that would include sports information, media relations, photography, graphic design, digital, social, and athletic communications is strongly preferred.
Ability to work effectively with a variety of people including various stakeholders of the program and institution.
Must have exceptional skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Experience with: Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office programs, Stat Crew/NCAA Genius stat systems, strong knowledge of social media platforms, design, motion graphic creation.
Demonstrated ability to perform under stress and maintain composure in the face of resistance and indifference.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments despite various deadlines, competing requirements and changing priorities.
Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed during peak game and recruiting seasons.
Occasional lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
