Position Summary and Responsibilities Vassar College invites applications for the position of Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach/Facilities Assistant. This is a benefit-eligible, ten-month position funded partially through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant program. This position offers a broad-based experience in strength & conditioning and facilities management at a Division III institution that sponsors 23 varsity sports and 4 varsity club teams with approximately 550 student-athletes. The individual will report to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and the Associate Athletics Director for Facilities and Events. Wherever possible and as dictated by the skill set and growth of the selected candidate, the individual will serve as a project lead and/or assume primary responsibility for comprehensive duties such as sport coverage, supervision of student workers, etc. Weekend, holiday, early morning and/or late evening hours are required.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will assist the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach with all aspects of the strength and conditioning program for approximately 550 student-athletes:
- Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs for assigned sports.
- Collaborate with the sports medicine staff to develop and implement injury prevention and injury rehabilitation programs for assigned student-athletes.
- Teach proper technique and provide supervision and motivation as needed.
- Conduct testing to assess student-athlete performance and improvement.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a webpage for Vassar College Strength & Conditioning.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and utilization of an online methodology for tracking student-athlete strength & conditioning activities, including the use of pre-practice readiness questionnaires.
- Assist with the development and implementation of a nutrition/snack station for student-athletes in the varsity weight room.
- Collaborate with head coaches to create instructional/training videos for off-season conditioning programs.
Responsibilities for facilities and events include: Assisting the Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities & Events in the administration of all departmental facilities, uniforms and equipment, and event management, including but not limited to:
- Attend weekly management meetings with athletic facilities staff.
- Assist with oversight of equipment and laundry operations in the Kenyon athletic building.
- Serve as a game manager/administrator for selected sports on an as-needed basis.
- Pre-game set-up and cleanup for home athletics contests, physical educational classes and recreational activities or other events conducted in all athletics facilities
- Other facilities duties as assigned.
Vassar College athletics programs are conducted in compliance with policies, procedures and regulations of Vassar College, the NCAA and the Liberty League.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a current NSCA, CSCS or CSCCA, SCCC certification.
- Knowledge and compliance with NCAA and league rules and regulations.
- Certification in CPR, AED and First Aid is necessary but can be obtained through Vassar College as needed.
- A valid driver’s license and the successful result of a background check are mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in an exercise science or other related field and two or more years of relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy.
