Missouri Southern State University is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Head Football Coach. MSSU is a Division II member of the NCAA and a proud member of the MIAA. MSSU is a four-year liberal arts public institution serving more than 5,000 students in over 140 academic programs offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. Missouri Southern is located in Joplin, Missouri, which is considered to be the Crossroads of America, and serves as the commercial hub for the four-states area. Joplin is a resilient and vibrant city with a population of over 50,000 serving a metropolitan statistical area of 208,000. Joplin is located in southwest Missouri at the crossroads of two major interstate highways, I-44 and I-49. Major metropolitan areas are easily accessible from Joplin (Kansas City-2.5 hours, Tulsa-2 hours, Branson-2 hours, Fayetteville/Northwest Arkansas-1 hour). Joplin is renowned for its outdoor activities with several lakes, hiking trails and other popular attractions close by.
The Head Football Coach is responsible for planning and directing all areas relevant to the success of the NCAA Division II football program at Missouri Southern by performing the following duties:
Identifies and recruits academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes.
Identifies, recruits and retains qualified football coaches and other football staff.
Organizes and conducts practices and develops game plans which prepare student-athletes for success. Monitors and promotes academic progress toward graduation for student-athletes.
Coordinates with strength and conditioning staff and athletics training staff to responsibly develop a program whereby players achieve maximum physical condition and athletic performance.
Promotes and demonstrates concern for the overall well-being of football student-athletes.
Operates all aspects of the football program within the guidelines, rules and regulations as set forth by Missouri Southern State University, the MIAA, and the NCAA.
Demonstrates fiscal accountability through budget management and fundraising.
Effectively communicates with media.
Fosters positive public relations by developing and maintaining quality relationships within the campus and alumni communities and the community at large.
Assists in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and other fundraising endeavors to aid the Football program specifically and the athletics department in general.
Performs athletics administration and support activities when required. Actively supports the endeavors and advancement of the Missouri Southern Athletics Department.
Performs other related duties as required.
