Recreation Division Director $73,694.40 - $83,824.00 Annually
Organize and provide a diversified recreation programming for people of all ages and assures the City of Temple meets the community’s recreational needs. Must be able to work flexible schedules, supervise staff, keep records, maintain equipment and supplies, and interact with the public. Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
•Direct, supervise, and manage all functions within the Recreation Division; implement programs, procedures and policies. Oversee the planning and general supervision all recreational program operations; screen, interview, hire, and provide training. Plan, develop, evaluate, improve, and communicate methods and techniques for selecting, promoting, compensating, evaluating, and training workers.
•Attend and participate in conferences, Board meetings, and represent Parks and Recreation to the public ensuring that the physical, social, and emotional needs of the community are met.
•Work with the school district, volunteers, and special interest groups to plan, organize, and implement special events and programs.
•Prepare, justify, and manage the Recreation Division budget. Maintain appropriate financial records. Supervise the collection of fees by Program Coordinators via City of Temple procedures.
•Prepare special reports, report on monthly activities, and various other daily, monthly, and annual reports;
•Visit personnel working at various sites and determine their needs, discuss problems, and assist in solutions.
•Review user fees regularly in order to generate sufficient revenue to keep facilities and programs up-dated or to expand programs.
•Manage all fiscal activities related to programs. Analyze operations to evaluate performance of a company and its staff in meeting objectives, and to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
•Work in conjunction with other City departments on related topics, tasks and functions related to the Parks & Recreation Department’s programming and operations.
•Review all major marketing pieces as needed.
•Determine major equipment needs and requisition purchases.
•Create and prepare various Divisional, Departmental and City-Wide reports.
•Prepare and process purchase orders.
•Oversee inventory and property management
•Manage and make recommendations that impact the divisional and department budget
Bachelors of Science degree in Recreation and Leisure Services Administration or related field required, and a minimum of five years progressive experience in municipal Parks and Recreation agency setting preferred. All applicants should possess a minimum of five years prior experience in a supervisory position.
It is preferred that applicants possess experience in managing and leading personnel whom are responsible for programming and facilities in the areas of aquatics, athletics, various recreational programming for children and adults as well as large scale special events. Those candidates with first-hand experience in the operations of recreational fitness facilities, recreation centers and swimming pool facilities also helpful.
Valid driver’s license
If hired, employee will be required to achieve Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) within six (6) months of hire date.
