•Perform assistant coach duties. •Teach technical aspects of field hockey that may include techniques that are sport specific or general in nature. •Assist with pre-season, regular season and permissible out of season practices and training programs. •Teach those strategies that are related to field hockey at the collegiate level of competition. •Assist the head coach in the preparation of effective game plans for opponents, analyze game situations, develop and communicate adjustments of plans as needed during the contests, and insures plans are consistent with the skills and abilities of student athletes. •Assist the head coach in the enforcement of policies relative to adherence of academic expectations of student-athletes. •Provide advising and guidance for academic endeavors of student athletes as assigned by the head coach in conjunction with the Student-Athletic Academic Services Office. •Ensure that every participating player is enrolled in at least 12 units of credit each quarter and completing an average of 13 units per quarter, maintains an overall GPA of at least 2.0, and makes normal progress towards graduation. •Travel to away games as designated and assists the head coach with all aspects of coaching and team management. •Attend planning meetings as scheduled by the head coach and attends ICA coaches meetings as designated by the Athletic Director. •Attend NCAA rules education sessions, including an annual meeting with the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance to review NCAA compliance responsibilities and legislative updates (periodic/regular attendance at on-campus monthly meetings, NCAA regional rules seminars). Contact the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance with any NCAA rules or questions, in a timely manner. •Report any potential NCAA rules violations to the Assistant Athletics Director of Compliance (or other specified individual), in a timely manner and to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big West Conference or Davis with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of NCAA violations.
30% RECRUITING /ACADEMIC/DEVELOPMENT •Recruit high school and junior college students to come to UC Davis to participate in the intercollegiate athletic program as a student-athlete; Duties may include telephone calls, letter writing, home visits, visiting high schools and junior colleges, attending games/matches and tournaments, etc. •Analyze team personnel needs on an on-going basis in order to assist in the establishment of a multi-year recruiting plan with specific objectives that encompasses the program's financial resources. •Observe contests of scheduled opponents in order to learn strategic information about the opposing team and the quality of personnel. •Must travel and review meet film. •Assist the head coach in an extensive UCD campus and community outreach program. •Assist the head coach as directed in fundraising and special project activities.

Work Environment: Complete and pass the National Collegiate Athletic Association Recruiting Examination per NCAA bylaw 12.1, 2.2.1 and be CPR & First Aid certified bi-annually.
Coaching and/or collegiate playing experience in the sport of field hockey.
Knowledge of the rules and strategies of field hockey. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching techniques, coaching strategies and safety measures that are necessary for athletes to compete at the collegiate level.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Ability to interact effectively and establish cooperative working relationships with UC Davis student-athletes, coaching colleagues, department staff and other persons from diverse backgrounds including parents, fans, boosters, members of the media and officials associated with the sport.
Ability to learn the complex policies and procedures regarding academic eligibility of UC Davis student-athletes. These include UC Davis, California Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association policies and procedures.
