UNM Athletics Academic Advising is seeking a Head Athletics Academic Advisor to work with our men's football team and additional teams as needed, and to serve as the Assistant Director of the Lobo Center for Student-Athlete Success. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and knowledge of NCAA rules and standards in regards to eligibility and graduation.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
â¢ Participating in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives with defined recruitment, retention and graduation outcomes
â¢ Administering a variety of student support services such as, career advisement, tutoring, accessibility services, assessment/testing, at-risk student services, crisis management, and co-curricular education programs
â¢ Assisting student athletes in understanding meeting eligibility guidelines based on NCAA, Mountain West Conference, and UNM requirements
â¢ Collaborating with Academic Advisors to provide academic guidance
â¢ Supervising students, tutors, and mentors as needed and appropriate
â¢ Evaluating student academic development through diagnostic interviews and individual assessment of academic strengths and deficits

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: • Master's Degree in counseling, education or sports management
• Demonstrated experience with:
o Advising Student-Athletes and working with high profile sports
o Hiring, training, and evaluation of full and/or part-time staff
o Managing a budget
o Supervising full and/or part-time staff members such as tutors or mentors and coordinating tutorial services for student athletes
o Knowledge of NCAA eligibility rules
o Coordinating and overseeing programming aimed to support incoming students of various levels of academic ability
o Working individually with at-risk students (including those with learning disabilities), employing a wide variety of methods designed to meet individual learning preferences
o Supporting high-achieving students with academic needs as well as career focused pursuits
o Taking initiative, self-motivation, and professionalism
