McKendree University is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a full-time Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Athletics Department at its Lebanon, IL campus. The Director of Strength and Conditioning will report directly to the Director of Athletics.
The Strength and Conditioning Coach will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of individualized, sport specific, and functional fitness programs for McKendree University Athletes. This includes testing and evaluation procedures, identifying functional strengths and weaknesses, and setting goals with sport coaching staff to improve athletic performance while preventing injuries.
Direct all facets of staff, program, and Sports Performance Center operations
Provide a service based on the stated needs of the Coaching Staff, Athletic Trainers, Physicians, and Student-Athletes to develop a holistic approach to performance enhancement
Develop staff work and supervision schedules, assign duties, and evaluate performance
Coordinate time schedule for use of the Sports Performance Center by each sport team and individual student-athletes
Communicate regularly with head sport coaches providing results and feedback of athletes’ progress and strength and conditioning goals
Develop, organize, monitor and implement comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for all McKendree University athletes across the thirty-seven programs
Oversee the athletic performance operation to ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and governing bodies’ rules and regulations
Monitor use of weight room facilities, develop weight room standards, and perform general maintenance/cleaning of weight room and equipment
Demonstrate and properly instruct student-athletes in basic and Olympic lifting techniques for safe and effective execution
Serve on various departmental, institutional, conference, and professional committees and task forces
Assist with on-campus recruiting activities for prospective student-athletes
Travel with sports teams (if applicable) and provide remote-site performance training programs, including pregame warm-up
Designate regular briefings with Athletic Training staff regarding injured or recovering athletes and work together to rehabilitate athletes
Perform other duties and special projects as requested by supervisor
Maintaining strict safety standards and precautions for improved athletic performance
A degree in Exercise Physiology with at least five years’ experience in fitness, sport specific, and training program development
CSCS certification with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and in pursuit of higher training certification
Extensive understanding of the NCAA Division II rules, regulations and operating bylaws
Exceptional organizational, time management and program management skills
Effectively manage day to day operations of weight room including design and instruction
Strong communication, leadership, relationship management, influence/persuasion skills to effectively get the clients to full compliance with exercise protocols
Comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment and with a variety of fitness clientele
