Executive, Executive - Associate Athletics Director
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, Connecticut, invites applications for the position of Associate Athletic Director/Department Chair, Health and Physical Education. The Academy seeks an individual with a proven leadership background, strong Health and Physical Education background and experience and understanding of NCAA Division III athletics and philosophy.
The successful candidate will serve as the Associate Athletic Director and Department Chair for Health and Physical Education (HPE). The selectee will serve as the direct supervisor for HPE faculty and all varsity sport coaches (approximately 25 individuals). The selectee will assist the Director of Athletics in NCAA compliance, program assessment, teacher/coach evaluation, contest management, scheduling, alumni relations and special events such as televised athletic contests. Major duties also include participation in the New England Women and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) administrators’ committee, implementation of professional development for staff, and collaboration with the Coast Guard Academy Institute for Leadership. The selectee will be responsible for the administration of the four year HPE curriculum and will also teach within the physical education department. Participation in regional and national committee work will be encouraged and supported. Major duties also include participation in leadership and professional development, activities with students outside of class, and service to the Academy.
Minimum degree requirements: Master’s Degree Required. Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in Physical Education, Sport Management, Athletic Administration, or related field required
Minimum specialized experience: College level physical education teaching experience and College level athletic administration experience.

Demonstrated positive communication and interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge and proven compliance of NCAA rules and regulations.
Proven experience teaching, coaching and/or mentoring diverse student populations and/or promoting equity and diversity initiatives.
Demonstrated alignment with the U. S. Coast Guard Academy’s core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty.
Demonstrated commitment to a positive and safe environment for coaches, staff, students, and student athletes
Demonstrated commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse, academically qualified student athletes and/or promoting equity and diversity initiatives
Experience serving as a contest manager for various sporting events.
Demonstrated experience creating a positive work environment through inclusive supervisory leadership practices
