Augustana University (SD) is seeking a graduate assistant for athletics communications. Augustana University is located in Sioux Falls, S.D. and competes at the NCAA DII level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. This position is responsible for assisting the Assistant AD for Communications in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the department as well as other responsibilities within the athletic department. Position provides a monthly stipend and full tuition remission to the Master of Arts in Sports Administration and Leadership program. Bachelor’s degree is required and acceptance into the master’s program is preferred. Anticipated start date of the position & graduate program is Feb. 5, 2020, for spring semester. It is also possible that the candidate may start in January.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Write and/or coordinate game notes, news releases, programs and feature stories for assigned sports (sports will be determined based on skills)
Develop and post social media content that engages the Viking fan base and maintain web pages for assigned sports
Produce/keep statistics compilation and record books for assigned sports
Coordinate professional photography needs, and when required take photographs
Produce video content with assistance from Director of Video & Digital Media
Work with different types of software integral to a comprehensive sports information department such as StatCrew, NLS and the Adobe Creative Suite
Establish and maintain positive relations with media through strong interpersonal communication skills
Other duties as assigned.
Strong communication and organization skills with good writing and editing ability
Experience in a college communications/sports information office or similar field
Interest in sports statistics and telling the story of athletic programs and student-athletes
An understanding of the demands of working in sports (nights/weekends plus regular office hours)
Graphic design and/or video experience
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
