Harvard University seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Head Coach - Cheerleading. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating all aspects and facets of a successful Cheerleading Club Sport Program.
Duties and Responsibilities: •Plan and direct the overall training strategy for the Harvard Cheerleading Club. In conjunction with the Club Sports Coordinator establish practice, competition, and travel schedules/logistics. •Instruct, condition, and develop Cheerleading Club participants. •Ensure adherence to all safety policies/procedures and maintain high standards of conduct and discipline. •Supervise and mentor participants and assistant coaches. •Establish game schedule with Associate Director of Athletics for Marketing and provide management and oversight at said required athletic contests and events. •Communicate effectively with Associate AD for Marketing, Assistant AD for Recreation and club participants so that students develop their full potential as individuals and athletes. •Assist in fundraising efforts and serve as liaison to the Friends of Harvard Cheerleading. •Performs related duties as required.
General Requirements (education, years of experience, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree required.
2-4 years coaching at the collegiate level or high school level.
Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students.
Excellent sport specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills necessary.
Understanding of Harvard academic environment and athletic philosophy preferred.
Ability to work in accordance with the rules set forth by Harvard University Athletics.
Ability to relate with constituencies outside of the department as well as department administration and other coaches. Ability to work independently and without immediate supervision.
Technology Skills Required: Basic proficiency in excel, word, and file maker pro preferred. Basic internet and email capabilities.
Competencies Required (skills/behaviors): N/A.
Special Requirements: (Special Licenses, certifications, etc.): CPR and First Aid certification.
The coach is required to be able to teach proper technique for all movements, including but not limited to pyramids, stunts, basket tosses, and all other routines.
The coach needs to be able to moderate practice routines based on skill level and the strength and coordination required for each technique.
The coach needs the experience and abilities to teach and educate each team member on proper safety guidelines, specific to each technique.
