Berry College invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Athletics. Berry is a selective comprehensive liberal arts college located on a stunning 27,000-acre campus just north of Rome, Ga, midway between Atlanta, Ga., and Chattanooga, Tenn. Berry is a founding member of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), which was established in 2012, in Division III of the NCAA.
The successful applicant will have a special opportunity to build a premier athletic program grounded in the mission and values of the college. Over the last decade, Berry has doubled the intercollegiate sports offered, built and enhanced athletic and recreation facilities, including the 131,000 square foot Cage Athletic and Recreation Center and a football/track and field/lacrosse facility. Last year was the most successful year in the history of athletics at Berry, with eight conference and tournament champions and six teams advancing to NCAA regional play. The program is poised to grow and build on this success.
Berry is seeking a creative and collaborative leader committed to athletic success, student academic achievement, and student involvement in the life of the campus. The Athletic Director is responsible for defining and achieving goals related to conference championships and recruiting and graduating talented student-athletes. The director will foster a culture that respects the role of coaches as mentors, emphasizes the value of character development in sports, and encourages a comprehensive educational experience for student-athletes. In order to provide enhanced travel and game experiences as well as specialized equipment, the director will play an active role in athletic fund-raising.

The athletic director is expected to be a champion for the college’s mission and culture. The director is expected to nurture a collaborative team within the athletic department, and to be a leader on campus, in the conference, and in the Rome community. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, strong leadership and mentoring abilities, and the ability to enhance a culture that is engaging and caring while leading with integrity.
The director is responsible for 23 intercollegiate sports, athletic facility and event management, budget management, public relations, alumni communication, and compliance with NCAA and SAA expectations. The director serves as the supervisor to a staff of forty and is expected to oversee the professional development of the coaching staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree is required. Previous administrative responsibility at the NCAA Division III collegiate level is strongly preferred and previous coaching responsibility is preferred.
