The successful candidate will promote and increase awareness of the news, achievements and opportunities fostered by the Department of Athletics, its student-athletes, and coaches. This is accomplished through the collection, organization, creation and posting or dissemination of pertinent information regarding our student-athletes, coaches, teams and department as a whole, then providing that information to the public. This needs to be done in a timely, accurate, easy to understand and easy to access fashion that meets the needs and desires of the key people it is our intention to communicate with.
The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will assist in the coordination with various conference offices in all sports information and public relations requirements. In addition, this person will:
- Assist in the publication and promotion of the Department of Athletics by serving as the primary media contact for assigned sports and the secondary media contact on sports as necessary
- Foster relationships with local, regional and national media to promote the Department of Athletics, student-athletes, coaches, staff and teams. Coordinate interviews with student-athletes and coaches.
- Provide support and supervision for External Affairs office video efforts including NEC Front Row, video boards, social media, etc.
- Assist in maintaining Department website, record books, etc. and assist in planning and implementing Department special events
- Participate in selection and nomination of deserving student-athletes and coaches for local, regional, conference and national awards (i.e. CoSida Academic All-America).
- Manage game day staffing needs for assigned sports
Bachelor's degree required; preferably in marketing, journalism, communications, computer science, sport management or other related field. 2-4 years experience in Athletic Communications. Addition professional and technical knowledge listed below:
Strong written, editorial, and communication skills, with ability to write in a variety of mediums and in time sensitive situations
Knowledge of design and publishing software, StatCrew, and video editing software
Experience in social media apps, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat
Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate statistics and records for school, league and NCAA purposes
Knowledge of NCAA and NEC rules and regulations and ability to work within those and the policies of Sacred Heart University
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with local, regional and national media, as well as coaches, staff and student-athletes
Experience with broadcast, studio and game day production and working knowledge of video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite or Final Cut preferred), cameras Tricaster other production and streaming equipment
Graphic design experience a plus
