The City of Fishers Parks and Recreation Department has played an integral role in making Fishers one the best places to live in the United States. With 25 park properties, nearly 600 acres of parkland, and over 100 miles of multi-use trails, the amenities offered to our citizens have grown along with the amazing growth of the city overall. But it doesn't stop there! The Department also operates a lake and beach during the summer season, an amphitheater which hosts a farmers' market and concerts (including national recording artists), five recreation facilities, and a 127-acre nature preserve.
We are seeking an innovative leader that is passionate about their job and the community. As part of the dynamic Parks and Recreation team and reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director will supervise the Department made up of 12 permanent staff and up to 30 seasonal employees. The position will also be responsible for managing the internal administrative operations and leading key initiatives for the Department. Examples of Duties:
Lead the day-to-day operations consistent with the Department's mission and vision.
Foster collaboration and a culture of innovation and openness.
Work closely with divisions and staff to provide vibrant, world-class experiences through programs and events, including: planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or City standards, policies, and procedures.
Prioritization and assignment of work, staff resources, and budgetary and/or supply resources.
Assist with development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and policies as well as ensure collaboration with other City departments and external stakeholders.
Analyze and assess programs, policies and operational needs.
Prepare strategic business and work plans for customer requirements and priorities to serve the needs of a demographically diverse community.
Prepare and track complex budgets.
Prepare new programs, feasibility and financial reports that justify and support service needs and operations.
Bachelor's degree with major course work in recreational science, physical education, public or business administration, or related field; Six years of increasingly responsible experience in park and recreation, including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility; Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; Ability to create presentations and present information and ideas clearly; Strategic thinking and planning as well as preparation and tracking of complex budgets; Ability to sometimes work outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
